BRIDGEPORT / MONO COUNTY — October 22, 2026. Drivers heading through the eastern Sierra on U.S. Highway 395 next week should watch for daytime drainage construction near Conway Summit. Caltrans District 9 says the northbound outside lane and shoulder will be closed from Conway Ranch Road to Virginia Lakes Road while crews install road drainage upgrades.

The work is scheduled Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., according to the agency’s traffic advisory published October 22. Motorists could encounter brief delays, but Caltrans did not announce a full shutdown of U.S. 395 for this operation. The notice describes the outside lane and shoulder in the northbound direction, not a closure of both directions.

Where is the affected highway section?

The work zone is on the U.S. 395 corridor south of Bridgeport, between Conway Ranch Road and the road toward Virginia Lakes. Drivers using the eastern Sierra route between the Bridgeport area and Mono Lake may pass near the operation. A lane restriction on this short stretch should not be confused with a closure of all U.S. 395 or a separately reported restriction inside Lee Vining.

What crews will be doing

Caltrans identifies the operation as the Conway Summit Drainage Work project. The agency describes drainage upgrades, without specifying in this weekly notice whether every work activity will occur at the same spot or exactly how many minutes an individual vehicle will wait. This article therefore does not claim firsthand observations or real-time closures.

Roadwork can move or be rescheduled because of construction conditions, weather, equipment and incidents. Before departure, consult Caltrans QuickMap for current lane information and Caltrans Highway Information for U.S. 395.

Other Mono County traffic impacts are separate

The same weekly advisory also lists planned utility-pole work along U.S. 395 near Mono City, between Picnic Grounds Road and Lundy Lake Road, and ongoing construction in Lee Vining. They are different work zones with different traffic controls. Travelers crossing several communities should check every section of their route, particularly when construction intersects with fall mountain weather.
